Overview:

We are recruiting a Trainee Tax Associate in our Newcastle upon Tyne office to assist with the provision of the firm’s tax advisory services as part of a larger tax advisory team.

Introduction to the role:

Our Tax Associates work with both corporate and personal clients in order to provide innovative and specialist solutions to a variety of tax problems.

The successful candidate will be responsible for the provision of both administrative and technical support to our team of Tax Associates. This role plays a vital part in both the delivery of client advice and the maintenance and development of client and adviser relationships.

As a Trainee Tax Associate your role will include:

  • Assisting Tax Associates with the preparation and drafting of client advice and the provision of related services
  • Liaising directly with clients, their advisers and HM Revenue & Customs Tax both orally (e.g. phone calls) and in writing (e.g. via email) in order to successfully maintain related relationships
  • Update and accurately manage internal Customer Relationship Management (CRM) systems
  • Provide a positive and active support function to facilitate Tax Associates (and the wider tax advisory team) in the achievement of targets and ensuring tight deadlines are adhered to
  • Monitor and report on a number of internal activities and undertake a wide variety of research tasks (including tax technical research)

Any successful candidate will undertake a detailed and comprehensive internal training programme to ensure they are fully understanding of any tax advisory work being carried out by the firm. In addition, ongoing monitoring and peer review is undertaken in respect of all Trainee Tax Associates to make sure they are both confidently and competently fulfilling their role.

Requirements:

It is anticipated that the successful candidate will be able to demonstrate:

  • Strong organisational skills and excellent attention to detail
  • An ability to understand complex technical concepts
  • A “can-do” attitude, a willingness to assist with a variety of projects and being a strong team player
  • Excellent time management skills and the ability to hit deadlines
  • A minimum 300 UCAS points (120 UCAS points with the new points system) or equivalent 2:1 degree

It should be noted that relevant experience gained within a tax or accountancy firm may be beneficial but not essential.

Benefits:

We may offer successful candidates the chance to study towards The Association of Taxation Technicians (ATT) qualification (subject to successful completion of an agreed probationary period and meeting performance objectives thereafter). Further career development opportunities may also be available in the future in terms of progressing to full Tax Associate status (with associated professional development opportunities also potentially available).
