Chloe May, Marketing Administration Assistant at Qubic Tax, will be taking part in the Great North Run this year. Chloe joined Qubic in 2017, and still works for the firm part time around her University studies.

If full time studies and a part time job weren’t enough to keep Chloe busy, she has decided to take on the challenge of the Great North Run for the first time ever!

Chloe said, “I am really excited to be taking part in the Great North Run this year- this will be the first time I have ever taken part!

I am pleased to be taking on the challenge with my colleagues who have been really supportive in helping me with my training schedule giving me some tips.

I am delighted to be assisting in raising funds for such a prominent North East based charity and I am excited to really push myself on this new challenge.”

Have you run a half marathon before?

No, never – which is one of the reasons why I am taking part this year.

What made you want to take part in the Great North Run?

When I was younger I was a member of a running team in Gateshead for a couple of years and did this alongside dancing and gymnastics. I was always an athletic child – but then I started secondary school and all that went to pot. I became a stereotypical teenager and running wasn’t something that appealed to me anymore. When this opportunity came to light I had to challenge myself. I want to push my limits and see if I have it in me.

What motivates you to train?

At first my motivation was ‘getting fit’, but now I have really fallen in love with running. The feeling you get when you achieve your goals is unbeatable and it is what keeps me going. It will be even better when I get to that finish line. Setting small goals along the way makes it easier.

What do you not like about running?

Running in the dark. When starting in February, I used to try and run on my lunch time so I could avoid the nights. It was so cold and dark in the winter which made it really difficult to be motivated!

How is training going to date?

As this is my first half marathon I have been training since signing up in February. Before this, I had not ran for years, so when the training began I found myself short of breath quite quickly. Now, I am able to run 9 miles at a steady pace without feeling the need to stop for a moment of breath.

What is your expected finish time?

I hope to cross the finish line in a time of 2 hours.

What made you want to run for The Sir Bobby Robson Foundation?

Being from Newcastle myself makes running for an amazing, home-based charity even more special. The work they do is so important and I look forward to making sure people continue to support them.
